Description

David & Goliath (SH2-115 & SH2-116)

I found the scale difference interesting with the planetary nebula (Sh2-116) being so much smaller.
The scene is quite poetic the end of a star’s life depicted by the small planetary nebula, and in the same frame, the birthplace of many more within SH2-115.

Decided to go deeper with this one with 32hours of data.
The full resolution image is too large to view at 0.46″/pixel and it was down-sampled by 65% to achieve the 0.7″/pixel seen here.
Click for the high resolution image in which many regions with intricate “pillars” and globules can be seen near the core of SH2-115.

The standard “Hubble” palette was modified to bring out more of the Sii emissions mapped to Red.
