Good vs Evil

With an almost mythical resemblance to darkness looming overhead, the Cave nebula imaged here in Cepheus, on the outer edges of Cepheus B cloud.

The region is riddled with a complex mixture of emission, reflection and dark dust clouds some 2500 light years from Earth. It is active with star formation.

Much of the background nebulosity was very dim, the long exposure and CDK14 in “Fast” astrograpgraph mode at f/4.7 coupled with the very efficient QHY600M allowed a lot of faint detail to be extracted from the data.

The image was resampled from 0.46″/pixel to 0.83″/pixel as shown here.

Shown below is the starless version, emphasizing the nebulosity:
