Description

Active Cooling Kit  for ZWO ASI uncooled cameras – NEW – Carbon Fiber Edition

Want to use uncooled ZWO ASI cameras for deep sky imaging or EAA?

Benefits

  • Aluminum heat sink and a high efficiency fan to dissipate heat that lowers the thermal noise, thus improving sensitivity and image quality
  • Lightweight, silent, and uses very little power (0.6 watts)
  • Forced air-cooling system and not a Peltier cooler that will cause dew
  • Tests show over a 10degC drop in sensor temperature
  • For all ZWO ASI Uncooled Cameras with 1x Central bolt hole on back
  • Vibration is eliminated by mechanically isolating the fan with 4x silicon vibration suppression mounts

    Definitely helps 🎯

  8. mark robinson –

Worked right out the box and did cool the cameras

  9. Simon T. –

Seems to keep my ASI585MC within 5 degrees of ambient temperature even on the hottest nights. I’m impressed!

Thank you very much for producing such a useful product. Keep it up!

I helps, but I probably expected more.

It is what it is… while I didn’t expect a large cooling impact on my ZWO camera, I do think this unit is useful during summer nighttime periods and especially for daytime solar imaging. I haven’t closely tracked case temperature but it feels noticeably cooler after 10-15 minutes.

  16. Kenneth –

    Works as expected 👍

  17. Kai W –

  18. Dale Carriere –

Perfect fit, quiet, vibration free, fairly priced. What more could you ask for.

  19. David B. –

The active cooling kit fits the asi174mm perfectly and is made of good quality materials, it should last several years.
As for performance it maintains the sensor temperature to around the ambient temperature which is about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than without the cooling kit.

  20. Arie –

I find that the fan dose not cool the camera at all, it was too expensive for what it is.

    • Rouz –

We’re sorry it didn’t meet your expectations. Thank you for the feedback. Your model selected at the time was the 5v USB version. While they did help, we have since then discontinued that and now only offer the more powerful 12v Noctua fan version. These are air cooled and not Peltier TEC, the cooling will not go below ambient regardless.

  21. Josef B. –

    Top!

  22. Sean O. –

Fantastic quality and does help cool.

  23. eric peuziat –

    no efficiency

  24. Roger P. –

Cools my camera but not as much as the “pro” ASI183 Peltier cooled ones.
However, my “pro” camera dies use a lot more power.
Still much better than no cooling at all. I’d say something in between.

  25. Stanley Spiropoulos –

It was cheaper than buying a dedicated cooling camera and it does the job properly.

Installation was no problem. The video shows how easy it is to do. However, I have two comments concerning the instructions shown on the video. The most important is application of the thermal paste. If you have gone through the process of building a computer then you know that a very thin film of thermal paste must be applied evenly over the entire base of the CPU. This was not done in the video. The paste should be applied to the bottom of the heat sink and not the camera. Then, using something like a regular razor blade of the type that is used in a craftsman scraper, spread the paste so that the entire bottom of the heat sink is covered with a thin, even amount of paste. After that is done, simply install the heat sink to the camera. Personally, I oriented the heat sink 90 degrees from that shown in the video so the ‘hot’ air would not be blown directly on the USB cable. That is a personal thing with me. BTW: After plugging the camera in to a power supply I really thought the kit was broken! There was absolutely no noise from the fan to indicate it was working and the blades were were not visible because they were spinning so fast. It was not until I unplugged it and saw that the blades had stopped spinning that I realized the kit was working just fine.

  27. Varris Herman –

I was having lots of noise with the sensor getting hot. I was also a bit concerned about vibrations a fan might cause but it’s very well suspended and works great. Would recommend.

  28. Zach R. –

I got the fan kit in today and it’s so cool. Thanks for the fast shipping!
Construction is excellent and the installation was incredibly easy. I will happily recommend this product and any others that I order from Rouz in the future. Can’t wait to test it. Thank you!
